Volunteer Policy

East Lothian Walking Festival (Walkfest) is a community-led event that celebrates walking, promotes health and wellbeing, encourages people to explore East Lothian’s unique landscapes and heritage, and provides opportunities for people to connect with others through shared outdoor experiences.

The Festival is organised entirely by volunteers. This policy sets out how volunteers are recruited, supported and valued, and outlines the expectations and responsibilities associated with volunteering for the Festival.

The Festival recognises the essential role volunteers play in delivering a successful programme and is committed to providing a positive, supportive and inclusive volunteering experience.

Equality, Inclusion and Safeguarding Policy

East Lothian Walking Festival (Walkfest) is committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive and respectful environment for all participants, volunteers, walk leaders, Steering Group members and partner organisations.

The Festival believes that walking should be accessible to as many people as possible and seeks to remove barriers to participation wherever reasonably practicable.

As a volunteer-led organisation, we are committed to treating everyone fairly and with dignity, promoting equality of opportunity and fostering a culture of inclusion.

This policy supports the Festival’s aims of improving health and wellbeing, strengthening communities, encouraging enjoyment of the natural environment and ensuring that the Festival remains inclusive and accessible.

Steering Group Code of Conduct

East Lothian Walking Festival (Walkfest) Steering Group is responsible for the governance, planning and delivery of the Festival.

As volunteers, Steering Group members are ambassadors for the Festival and play a vital role in ensuring that its activities reflect the aims, values and objectives of the organisation.

This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected of all Steering Group members.
