About us

First run in 2022, East Lothian Walking Festival is a community-led initiative that brings together people and organisations from across East Lothian to share the positive benefits that ‘going for a walk’ has on our physical, mental and social health.

Walks for all

Our aim is to provide appropriate, welcoming and accessible opportunities for people to be more active.

We are committed to reducing barriers to participation.

All of our bookable walks and events are free of charge and the majority are easily reached by public transport. Where this is not possible, we have provided transport and are extremely grateful to Community Windpower for covering this cost.

We have endeavoured to ensure that many of our promoted routes are step-free and are proud to include all-ability walks within the Festival programme.

Our programme

Our programme has almost doubled in this, our second year, with even more walks and events to choose from.

In addition to our long-distance hikes and the gentler Health Walks, we have a number of themed walks taking in local history, geology, storytelling and even some citizen science!

Our thanks to ...

None of this would be possible without the enthusiastic support and commitment of our wonderful partner organisations, their staff and the many volunteers who work so hard to make a Festival like this happen. Heartfelt thanks to all concerned.

Walkfest ’23 is supported directly by Community Windpower, the Co-Op, Smarter Choices, Smarter Places fund, East Lothian Council Active Travel and North Berwick Coastal Health and Wellbeing Association. Thank you for your help and for continuing to support your community.
