About us
East Lothian Walking Festival, known as Walkfest, was established in 2022 and is an entirely community-led initiative. It brings together people and organisations from across our county to share the positive benefits that ‘going for a walk’ – whatever kind of walk – has on our physical, mental and social health.

Walks for all
Our aim is to provide appropriate, welcoming and accessible opportunities for people to be more active.
We are committed to reducing barriers to participation.
All of our bookable walks and events are free of charge and the majority are easily reached by public transport.
Where public transport is not an option, we have provided transport and are grateful to our sponsors for their contributions to this cost.
We have endeavoured to ensure that many of our promoted routes are step-free and are proud to include all-ability walks within the Festival programme.
Our programme
We are delighted that our programme continues to grow and develop. This year we have even more walks and events to choose from.
From long-distance hikes to more gentle strolls, we have a number of themed walks taking in local history, geology, nature, storytelling and photography. There are also opportunities to hone outdoor skills, try out a ‘walking’ sport or go on a wildlife adventure! There really is something for everyone, young and old, in Walkfest24.
Becoming a member
Every adult who takes part in one of our walks will automatically become a member of the East Lothian Walking Festival group.
Members can opt in to the mailing list during the booking process.
If you choose to join the mailing list, you will receive updates on future events, an invitation to our AGM etc.
Membership carries no financial obligation and lasts for one year.
