This route
A circuit of the hills around Whiteadder Reservoir, climbing the track to the summit of Spartleton (468 metres / 1535 feet) and crossing the Whiteadder dam before ascending Priestlaw Hill (425 metres / 1395 feet).
Your journey begins in Haddington, where you will join your group at the Corn Exchange. Transport has been arranged to take you to the start of your walk, some 14 miles away in the Lammermuir Hills.
Leaving the coach behind, your route follows an undulating path close to the Whiteadder Reservoir and climbing to the top of Spartleton, before taking in the wonderfully named Hog Rig and Hungry Snout on the descent.
After crossing the dam, the route takes in Priestlaw, Pensheil, Packman’s Grave and Kingside Hill.
There will be plenty of opportunities to stop and admire the view or do a bit of wildlife spotting so don’t forget your camera!
The coach will take you back to Haddington at the end of your walk.
The walk is 16 km (10 miles) with a total ascent of 550 metres / 1800 feet.
The majority of the walk will use farm tracks but you should be prepared for occasional rough terrain underfoot. Please wear appropriate and comfortable walking shoes/boots and bring your waterproofs. You should also bring water, snack and a packed lunch. Sunscreen and insect repellant are also advised.
