Walking hockey

Meadowmill sports centre

Walking Hockey is one of the growing list of ‘walking sports’ in East Lothian.

It is a low impact sport, designed to encourage everyone to be more physically active regardless of health, age or ability. Whether you are new to hockey, haven’t played for a while, a seasoned pro or returning to exercise following injury, Walking Hockey allows you to build your confidence in a relaxed and friendly environment.

As well as a great way to keep fit and active, Walking Hockey provides an environment to develop friendships, to socialise and create shared experiences with like-minded individuals. Walking Hockey is low intensity physical activity so those with physical or cognitive impairments are empowered to participate.

Our friendly Thursday evening group are a bunch of older adults who play all year round, outdoors mostly but continue indoors in the colder, dark evenings of winter.

Please make sure you wear trainers with a good grip (we play on astro-turf), water and warm layers. If you have your own stick, bring it along but if not, we have some extra ones you can use. If you have shin guards, feel free to wear them, but they are not essential.

People can expect a fun game of walking football involving all age groups of mixed abilities (both men and women).

Players should dress appropriately depending on the weather. Trainers or astro football boots should be worn.
