The East Lothian Walk Fest, in partnership with Venturing Out CIC, is offering you the chance to join in a walk that has it all! Covering a variety of terrain, ponies, a little bit of local history and offering arguably the best views in the county, the walk will take you from Traprain to Berwick Laws.

Starting with a short but steep climb up Traprain Law, the county opens up in front of you. Berwick Law, your final destination, is very prominent to the North. The descent takes you down to the Tyne River, passing Hailes Castle and on towards East Linton. There you will pick up one of Scotlands National Trails, the John Muir Way, that brings you back to North Berwick. Your final challenge, if you still have the energy for it, is the steep climb up to the top of Berwick Law for a well deserved rest and the chance to take some amazing photographs!

The walk (including the climbs) is 23km. Please note there is a short section on the roadway.

Physicality

A reasonable level of physical fitness is required for this walk.

Meeting Point / Transport

To avoid congestion in the small car parks in North Berwick and Traprain, coach transport will be provided from North Berwick Law car park. Please consider using active transport and/or public transport options when arriving for the coach.

Time

Meet in North Berwick Law Car Park at 9am. We will return to the car park by 5pm latest.

Unfortunately, the walk is not suitable for under 14s. Ideally people under 18 should be accompanied by an adult but please contact us to discuss your requirements.

What you need to bring

  • This is a walk over mixed terrain so we would advise wearing walking boots, sturdy shoes or trainers with a good grip.
  • Water / drink
  • Packed lunch and snacks
  • Suncream
  • Waterproof jacket and trousers (it is Scotland!)
