Lammermuir hills

Learn expedition skills in a kind of ‘DoE for adults’

Date : Saturday August 31st

Time : 9 am

Meet : Haddington Corn Exchange

With : Venturing Out

Walkfest ’24 in partnership with Venturing Out CIC is offering you the chance to join a day of learning expedition skills that will equip you with the knowledge that you need for safe and confident low level journeying.

Think ‘DofE for Adults’ and you will get a picture of what this day will give you!

While we can’t offer a full weekend expedition, we will take to the hills to look at:

• Navigation skills

• Route planning

• Expedition equipment

• Setting up camp

• Cooking on the hills

• Staying safe in the hills

• Outdoor Access Code

We will do all of this while journeying through the beautiful Lammermuir hills, taking in the views, and enjoying being away from it all.

The walk is 14 km / 9 miles, with climbs. Please note there is a short section on a minor road.

Physicality: A reasonable level of physical fitness is required for this walk.

Meeting point and travel

To avoid congestion in the limited car parks available, coach transport will be provided from Haddington. Please consider using active transport and/or public transport options when arriving for the coach.

Timings

Please meet at Haddington Corn Exchange at 9 am. We will return to the car park by 5pm latest.

Booking

Places are free, but please book in advance through our ticketing website.
