Family woodland nature walk

Lochend woods, Dunbar

Family-friendly circular walk in Lochend woods

Date:  Sunday August 23, 2026

Time:  9.30am to 11.30am

Meet:  The Gathering Place, Middlemass Road, Dunbar

With:  Wilder Outdoor Education

Join Wilder OE for a slow, circular walk around Lochend woods – a great opportunity for all the family to slow down, explore and find out what’s happening in the woods in late summer.

We’ll make journey sticks to collect things of interest and help us re-tell our journey through the woods. There will be time at the end to play in a hammock or make a den. Refreshments included.

More information

Who is it for: Families with children 3+.

Group size: 10 families.

Some uneven parts on the path. Most of the woodland has good paths.

Good idea to wear long sleeves/trousers to protect from nettles/brambles/ticks.

No dogs please.

This event is aimed at families with children aged 3+. If bringing younger siblings, please bring them in a buggy or have in a backpack.

We will have a pop up mobile toilet tent in the woodland for any emergencies.

A small refreshment will be provided at the end of the walk.

What to bring

A small snack and drink will be provided but please bring your own if you have specific dietary requirements. You may want to bring a seat pad if kneeling/sitting on the ground is uncomfortable.

Getting there

Meet us at the Gathering Place on the corner of Middlemass Road and Kellie Road, Dunbar. Please try to arrive on foot or by bicycle. There are no bike racks but you can lock a bike to a tree. Dunbar is well served by public transport such as the X7 (stops at Asda at the top of Kellie Road, about a 5 min walk away). If you are driving, be considerate to locals and park at Halhill Sports centre. What3Words: ///seagull.kidney.passing
