Walking routes
Sea to Summit Challenge
North Berwick
Start : Church Road
End : North Berwick Law
Length : 4 km / 2.5 miles
Very scenic walk mostly on paved paths with a gentle ascent, but finishing with a steep climb on a rough track
Starting in North Berwick High Street, this route takes in the historic harbour area before turning to make the long climb to the top of Berwick Law.
On the way you will visit the 17th century Lodge buildings, the Victorian garden grounds, the naturalised wetland at foot of the Law, Exmoor ponies, the remains of an iron age fort, a lookout used in the Napoleonic Wars and Second World War – and all topped by a (replica) whale’s jawbone!
From the top, the views are spectacular across the East Lothian countryside to the Lammermuirs and Pentland Hills.
Facilities
Refreshments and public toilets are available in the town centre.
Walkability
Much of the route is easy walking on paved surfaces, but the climb to the top of North Berwick Law is steep and on a rough track.
