Arguably the most picturesque section of the John Muir Way, which is one of the finest of Scotland’s national trails. Walking through beautiful East Lothian countryside, it is easy to see why this is becoming such a popular route for those wishing to connect with the natural environment.
John Muir famously tied himself to a tree during a storm to experience the sights, smells, sounds and physical movement of the forest around him. He wrote powerfully about this ‘Wind-storm in the Forests’ in his 1894 book, The Mountains of California.
Our route ends at the country park named after him and devastated by the recent Storm Arwen. What would he have made of this, do you think?
Of course, if you are feeling up to the challenge, you can carry on to Dunbar High Street to complete this, the first or last section of the JMW.

Refreshments and toilets are available in East Linton and at East Links Family Park and there are toilets at John Muir Country Park.
Walkability
This is a longer walk and some sections are on uneven paths and rough tracks.

East Coast buses runs a service between East Linton and Dunbar. Check website for timetable.
