Cockburnspath circular

Cockburnspath, Oldhamstocks, Dunglass

Date : Sunday August 27th

Time : 9am

Meet : Haddington Corn Exchange

With : Ramblers

All-day walk of 17 km / 10.5 miles with a total ascent of 356m / 1167ft

A GENTLE FOREST and farmland walk around some of the most scenic countryside in East Lothian with visits to the remains of Kirklands farm, the village of Oldhamstocks, and Dunglass Collegiate Church founded in 1440.

Most of the walk will be on well-defined paths or farm tracks, with two short sections on minor roads.

There is one steep ascent near Woollands which can be avoided if it is too wet and slippery. The rest of the 356 m / 1167 ft of ascent is gradual.

The walk follows a route from the Cockburnpath Square, along Dunglass Burn past the remains of Kirklands farm to Hoprig and Hoprigshiels farm. Then on to Dod Hill and Woollands to arrive in Oldhamstocks. We will walk to Belvidere Wood and visit to Dunglass Church before returning to Cockburnspath.

Timings

The walk will be at a gentle pace including plenty of rest stops at scenic locations for drinks and lunch. We will expect to complete the walk in 6 -7 hours.

What to bring

Bring a drink, snack and a packed lunch.

Remember we are in Scotland (!) so bring a waterproof jacket and trousers and an extra layer of clothing to put on when we take a break.

If you have binoculars, bring them along too as there is plenty of wildlife along the route.

Meeting point and travel

A bus will leave from Haddington Corn Exchange at 9am, Sunday August 27th to start the walk at 9:30.

It may also be possible to pick up from / drop off at Dunbar Garden Centre. Please let the walk leader know if you would like this option.
